The Republican Party is now officially, and without question, the party of angry white men who say “no.”
For a party whose leader proclaimed yesterday, “We don’t want to tell anybody how to live,” they sure have a long list of things they will not tolerate no matter how ridiculous those positions might be.
The news is replete with examples of not just a complete absence of ideas from anyone on the right but an outright rejection of common sense. From health issues to wages to education to the rule of law. What’s important? A catchy slogan.
Bobby Jindal is but one of the recent poster children for the party of “no.” His performance Tuesday last (2/24/09) was competent only insofar as the actual broadcast didn’t fail. There is not one line in his rebuttal that has not been shown to be either deceptive or flat out untrue except for “hi, my name is Bobby Jindal.” And it just gets worse.
John Cole has a breakdown of “Newt Gingrich’s 12 point plan for the GOP to recapture the hearts of America.”
The grassroots on the right — declining though their number may be — aren’t going to let their own incoherence get in the way. Oh, no, watch out, they’re mad — they’re going to teabag you! (The party of family and God — reaching new heights of cluelessness every day.)
Why do these patriotic Americans want to teabag their fellow patriotic Americans? Well, that’s the thing … they’re not entirely clear themselves. Something about “these bailouts and massive spending bills.” But the angry white men who surreptitiously got the ball rolling are pretty clear on their agenda. They just haven’t exactly told the folks doing, you know, the actual protesting.
How completely unraveled is the right? Their official leader is “a drug-addled shock-jock who’s actively rooting for America’s decline.”
It’s too depressing to cite further examples of the unhinged lunacy of the party of “no.” I’ll close by simply asking that you take every opportunity to educate yourself about the truth behind GOP slogans.
